When The East Meets The West

Pasta Zanmai is a restaurant that serves japanese and western fusion food. When I first heard of this, I wasn't interested because I didn't really think that salmon or unagi could go well with pasta. As I had good experience at Sushi Zanmai (Pasta Zanmai and Sushi Zanmai are a chain of restaurants owned by SuperSushi Group), I wanted to give it a try.

The ambience was quite comfortable, as expected from a japanese restaurant. Just like Sushi Zanmai, you could enjoy the scenery of the chefs preparing dishes behind the glass wall.

My friend opted for Goma Soft Shell Crab (RM 23.00). You could choose set meal (RM 26.00) which includes a bowl of miso soup and salad. The crab was a bit overdid and the thick creamy sauce was a bit too salty. Overrall, the dish was acceptable. 3.25/5

I had Unagi Onsen Pizza (RM 26.00). It had crispy thin crust with unagi, seaweed and teriyaki sauce as toppings. You are suppose to break the partially cooked egg in the middle of the pizza so that the yellowish-orange yolk would spread around the pizza. I prefer to dip the pizza into the yolk before eating it. I gave this dish a thumb up!!! 4.5/5

I found Milky Green Tea (RM 8.00) was unexpectedly good as I'm not really fond of iced-blended green tea. The blended milk green tea was topped with sweet red bean paste and 'sinful' whipped cream. The milk flavor overpowered green tea flavor. This drink was excellent overrall. 3.75/5

If you would like to try unique and delectable food, I highly recommend Pasta Zanmai.

Sushi King~Setiawangsa Jusco

I always love the food at Sushi King. The food is tasty and the price is affordable. The service at this restaurant was good and the waitresses were very polite.

I ordered dry curry ramen (RM11.90). Japanese curry is thicker, denser and not as hot and spicy as Indian curry. But this curry was rather watery, despite its name. It tasted plain and wasn't well-seasoned. I enjoyed this dish the least. 0.5/5

The slices of salmon sashimi (RM 12.90) here were thicker than the ones I had at Sushi Zanmai but the size was smaller so they were just about the same. The texture of the meat was smooth and you could feel the juice flowing into your mouth with each bite. 4/5

Next is my favorite dish, spider roll (RM 11.90). It only came with 4 pieces of sushi but each of them were as gigantic as california rolls. Deep fried crabs were wrapped with fresh cabbage, seaweed and sticky rice, sprinkled with roe and mayonnaise . The proportion of vegetable was a bit too much but it still tasted great. 3/5

Fried chicken sushi with mayonnaise (beige plate-RM3.00) wasn't as bad as I thought. The meat was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Delicious~~ 3/5

Unagi sushi (pink plate-RM 4.00). The fish was well-flavored and fresh. I always love unagi and thus I would rate this dish high. Haha! 3.5/5

Mackerel sushi (pink plate-RM 4.00). The fish was well fried and topped with a bit of sesame seeds 3.5/5

The prawn was deeply fried until golden brown and was wrapped with vegetable, sticky rice and seaweed ebi sushi (red plate-RM 5.00). I found this dish to be very good. 3.5/5

Ebi sushi (purple plate-RM 6.00). This dish was quite good but I prefer the dish above better. 2.5/5

Sushi King also offer free green tea and it's refillable ^^

Sushi Zanmai~The Gardens

Ever since my client treated me to a Japanese restaurant, I couldn't forget the taste of fresh salmon sashimi. I'd been hunting for salmon sashimi since that day with the hope of eating salmon sashimi as good as the one which my client treated me.

Ok, enough with grandfather's story and focus on our topic. The restaurant had nice and cozy ambience. Yellow lighting in the restaurant made me feel very comfortable. However, the air-con wasn't cool enough and a little stuffy. There was a glass wall in the restaurant which you could watch the chefs make dishes. As the restaurant was full of customers, we had to wait for our food.

As we were too hungry, we took some sushi from the rotating sushi bar.

As one of unagi fans, I found this dish disappointing. The rice was topped with plain unagi making it quite tastless. (pink plate-RM 3.80) 1/5

The ebi sushi was just average. The prawn and rice roll were deeply fried. I usually would love ebi sushi but I didn't find this dish good enough. (red plate-RM 6.80) 1.5/5

This sushi was wrapped with seaweed and cucumber. It tasted too mild to me. (cream plate-RM 1.80) 1/5

Salmon sashimi (RM 6.80 per 3 slices) by itself is tasteless. However, when it is eaten with nitsume, shoyu (japanese soy sauce) and wasabi, it is simply delicious. The slices were thick enough and you could taste the freshness and sweetness of the meat in each slice. 4.25/5

Soft-shell crab maki (RM 6.80) was surprisingly good. The deeply fried soft-shell crab was wrapped with seaweed, gohan (sticky rice) and roe (fish eggs), a perfect combination. 4/5

Our next dish was saba teriyaki (RM 12.80). The grilled meat was soft and sweet, coated with teriyaki sauce. Not bad. 3/5

The grilled salmon teriyaki (RM 12.80) wasn't bad. The fish was smooth and tender and was grilled to perfection. A perfect combination with gohan (japanese rice). 3/5

Green tea -refillable (RM 2.00)

We were fortunate to dine in the restaurant just in time. When we left, there was a long queue waiting at the entrance.

If you're looking for a comfortable and affordable japanese meal, Sushi Zanmai is the place.

Cheese Baked Rice~Kim Gary

The restaurant is a very busy restaurant, with lots of hungry customers flooding the restaurant. It looks like an ordinary chinese restaurant that you found in big shopping centers.

I tried unagi seafood with wasabi cheese topping. The cheese was quite thick that I was quite full after taking a few bites. The unagi was juicy and nicely flavored with japanese soy sauce. However, the wasabi wasn't like what I expected and not spicy enough.

What a big slice of unagi=D

Look at the gigantic oyster!! Too bad I don't eat oyster and so my friend ate it for me lol!!

My friend ordered a glass of honey milk and it's way too sweet.
